Looking good: Brampton Bowls Club who played Courtfield at Brampton last Thursday

Stanwix had a very good 9-1 win at home to Subscription in the Thursday Carliol League, and are now level at the top of the table with Courtfield who won 6-4 at Brampton.

Courtfield won on three rinks but Barry Milgate’s big win secured the two aggregate points for the home side.

One noteworthy comment about the game was that the Brampton green was running really well. Okay the lines are not always easy but the green was the quickest I have encountered this season and the verticutting programme has obviously worked wonders.

Wetheral had a very good win at West End, taking nine of the points and Dalston took eight points from their trip to St James for the game against Holme Head.

Courtfield remain in top spot and have a game in hand of the four nearest pursuers who are Stanwix, Dalston, Wetheral and Subscription.

The dark horses are Brampton who are 13 points behind the leaders but do have a game in hand of Courtfield and two in hand of the four above them.

Friday Carlisle League

Courtfield made a successful trip to St James but could manage only a 6-4 win. West End had a good 8-2 victory over Stanwix and Wetheral proved too strong for Subscription, getting home 8-2.

Brampton won by 27 shots against Dalston but Dalston had two winning rinks thus restricting the home sides win to 6-4.

Wetheral now lead the way, a point clear of Brampton and a further two points ahead of West End the last named two clubs have both played a game more. Subscription are still close up and they too have a game in hand.

Thursday Handicap

Brampton defeated Courtfield by two shots but had eight start so won by 10 overall. West End gave Wetheral 10 start and lost by 11.

Holme Head lost by 12 to Subscription but had 16 start so won by four shots. Stanwix beat Subscription overall by 13 shots.

There are now just four points between the top six sides, though Brampton are favourites as they currently head the table and have two games in hand of the next two teams who are Stanwix and Subscription.

In fourth spot are Courtfield who still have Brampton to play on the Courtfield green.

In tonight’s games, Courtfield have home advantage but have to give the visitors Wetheral 15 shots start.

Brampton are also at home and have to concede nine shots to West End.

Brampton also head the Friday handicap but it is all still quite tight with just seven points separating the top from the bottom team.

In tomorrow’s games, Dalston will host Courtfield and the visitors will give Dalston nine shots.

Brampton are also at home and have to give Holme Head 16 shots.
