Seaton Athletic Club celebrated their sixth consecutive Cumbria League title at their awards night.

There were a number of other honours for the athletes, coaches, family and friends of the west Cumbrian club to look back on too.

In what was a mixed campaign for the club, the Cumbria League was again retained for a remarkable sixth time in a row, something that has never been done before by any club.

The club also were crowned the Cumbria League Under-11s overall winners, Under-13 overall winners, Under-15s overall winners, Boys overall winners, girls overall winners and league champions.

There was individual success, too, for Seaton AC athletes, including Under-13 boys’ Oscar Doran, Under-13 girls’ Beth Jolly, Under-15 girls’ Abigail Wright and Under-17 boys’ Louie Doran.

Head coach Terry Hughes paid tribute to all the athletes that competed for the club during the season.

He said: “Although it’s a great achievement by those athletes that won the individual awards, there are many athletes that compete for the club and gain valuable points by finishing fourth, fifth and sixth.

“All these point add up and helped the club win the league.”

At the County Championships back in May, the club also managed to retain the Jack Harper-Tar trophy for the most successful club at the championship.

If there was a downside to this season, it was the club’s senior team being relegated in the Northern Athletics League. The sad part of this is that it was not all the club’s fault.

Chairman Keith Hunton explained: “The league consists of four meetings during the season with points being awarded, depending on your position on the day.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to travel to one of the meetings held in Wakefield due to transport problems.

“We were let down at the last minute by our regular bus company and, despite managing to re-arrange another company to take us, we had two buses break down on the day, meaning we were unable to get there and at the end of the season we were relegated by two points.

“It would be unfair to name any individual athlete after the successful season we have had once again, as every single one of our athletes contributed to the success of the club and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and dedication.

“It makes the life of all the coaches much easier with such a great bunch to work with.”

The coaches thanked everyone who competed for the club and also the parents and helpers who continue to support the club all year round.
