Cumbrian Nick Miller made light work of booking his place in the World Athletics Championship hammer throw final.

Miller, from Scotby, threw the qualifying distance with his first throw of 75.52m to make Friday night's final.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist was faced with less than ideal conditions with the rain driving down at the London Stadium, but he has been in impressive form this year and dealt with the conditions well.

BBC commentator Toni Minichello, Jessica Ennis-Hill's former coach, said: "Nick Miller kept his arms brilliantly straight there and lets the hammer go at around 60 miles per hour - great throwing.

"Perhaps [he is] a little late and that would be my only concern for me - it was right along the line of the sector and any later would have been a foul throw.

"However, that may have been him compensating for the wet conditions."
