Maryport racer Chris Hodgson has chalked up an unprecedented 12th British Supermoto Championship with two rounds still remaining.

Hodgson was involved in the 30th anniversary Supermoto event at the sports mecca at Mettet in Belgium.

The event attracts riders from all over the world with this year riders from Japan, Australia and America joining huge numbers of Europeans.

Hodgson, along with Dave Todd, got automatic byes through to the semi-finals.

The Maryport man also got his first taste of action representing the Rest of the World in the "Course a l'Americaine" which is a one-lap dash between the Belgians and the Rest of the World, with the last rider from each team being eliminated.

Hodgson went well winning the first three laps and hung on to the last four before going out.

The first semi-final saw eight British riders, including Hodgson, competing.

Hodgson was impressive and untroubled in securing fourth place.

With Hodgson looking for a top-ten finish, the final started with six UK riders on the grid.

This race is 25 minutes plus two laps, so fitness and bike reliability is key.

Hodgson began really well and held seventh position for the first 10 minutes, however in the off-load section, let five riders through and he dropped to 12th.

With a never-say-die attitude, Hodgson dug deep and got back on the pace, fighting his way through to ninth.

Hodgson was having a titanic battle with Belgian ace Lionel Deridder and his efforts paid off when Derrider went down on the last lap to hand Hodgson a fantastic eighth place.

All in all it was a great achievement from the Cumbrian rider who has been called into the Great Britain side.
