Two of Keswick’s hockey sides played home games and both suffered defeats.

The men’s firsts played host to Prescot but they fell behind in the third minute and were then playing catch-up throughout the game.

However, they were two evenly-matched teams who were as adept in defence as they were in attack.

Shaun Wilson and Tom Morgan started numerous Keswick attacks from the back, leading to strong runs from midfield by Clive Swanston and Ben Harrison.

The visitors, however, made it 2-0, and it took a Morgan goal to get the Keswick team back into the game.

It was touch and go until the visitors made sure of the points with a third goal.

The second game saw the Ladies 2nds up against another good team in the shape of Wigton. Once again, the Keswick side had a mix of experience and youth playing, and the youngsters responded well.

Jenny Hunter, home from university, was a plus for the Keswick side, with her non-stop running a constant problem for Wigton.

Having created several good chances for themselves, they were able to withstand the visitors’ attacks until just before half-time and went in only one goal down.

After the break, the visitors scored three quick goals to seal the victory.

However, Keswick kept attacking until the end.

Becky Semple’s runs caused the Wigton defence problems while Rachel Armstrong was prominent with her strong tackling and good running.

Wigton scored again near the end to give them a rather flattering 5-0 margin of victory.
