The newest member to Border City ABC's boxing team Jordan Ryan kicked off the new season with a win.

Jordan, a highly-rated schoolboy who has previously boxed in west Cumbria for Cleator Moor and Whitehaven ABC, came out on top as he travelled up to Irvine to face a Scotland gold medallist.

Border City's Jordan won the fight against Bradley Lowe, of the hometown club, in comfortable fashion, winning every round on Saturday.

Jordan started fast, closing his opponent down and landing some good shots to his body and head. He kept up his high tempo work-rate and ultimately proved too strong in every department for Bradley.

"The win will give Jordan a much-needed confidence boost and was a very good scalp for him," said Border City coach Ian Archibald.

The young boxer will be travelling to the Carlisle club from Cleator Moor three to four times a week. He had won his first 10 amateur bouts, before losing his last four and deciding a change was necessary.

In another top bout, Jordan is matched against Scottish schoolboy champion Marcus Sutherland from Springhill ABC on the Border City home show. It is due to take place at Carlisle Racecourse next month.

A total of 16 boxers from the Carlisle club are expected to be involved at the event on October 21.

Tomorrow, Border City will also have three boxers competing in Manchester at the North-West championship finals.

City's David Turnbull is set to take on Campbell Hatton, the son of former world champion Ricky. The pair met earlier in the year with David coming away with the victory in a tight contest.

Last year's national champion James Rowlands will be up against Abbas Basharat, of Centurions ABC, at the national championship finals.

Meanwhile, City's unbeaten heavyweight David Brown faces James Craughwell from Shinny's ABC, Manchester.
