An Egremont wrestler is set to perform in front of millions of prime-time TV viewers in the revival of an iconic show this weekend.

Johnny Moss is one of the main attractions in the hotly-anticipated two-hour World of Sport special being broadcast on ITV1 on New Year’s Eve (5pm).

World of Sport was originally shown every Saturday afternoon between 1965 and 1988, and regularly attracted more than 15 million viewers.

The revival features a host of current British wrestling stars, including ‘The East End Butcher’ Sha Samuels, Dave Mastiff and ‘Viper’ Kimberly Benson.

On commentary is legendary former WWE announcer Jim Ross, and a number of World of Sport originals are also featured.

And hopes are high that, if the special is a success, a weekly series will be commissioned by ITV.

“It’s an absolute honour for me to be involved in the revival of World of Sport,” said Johnny, who runs the School of Hard Knocks and Hammerlocks in his Egremont hometown.

“After wrestling for almost 20 years, this is the icing on the cake for me. To perform in front of millions of people on TV is mind-blowing.

“I am a huge fan of the old World of Sport wrestling, and to have its stars Johnny Saint, Marty Jones and Rollerball Rocco front row of this revival was a real honour.

"These fellas paved the way for us and now we’re taking it to the next level.

"I’m very confident along with several other members of the crew that wrestling will return to ITV every week very shortly – back where it belongs!”

Johnny has been a well-respected name on the British and European circuit since debuting almost 20 years ago.

He’s regularly shared a bill with WWE Hall of Famers, including Mick Foley and Booker T, competed with champions Daniel Bryan and Sheamus (in their pre-WWE days), and famously helped train Finn Balor, the first WWE Universal Champion.

And since opening his wrestling school in 2014, he’s called his contacts book to welcome a number of special guests to Egremont, including Balor and former WWE stars Al Snow, Chris Masters and Bob ‘Hardcore’ Holly.
