A young basketball player from Dearham is now the proud owner of her very own sports chair.

Emily Branthwaite, 11, has been playing at Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club (CWSC) since 2013.

She has been progressing into a very good player and is now old enough to play for their Juniors.

Emily has been competing for CWSC's Junior League team for the last 12 months, coming away with Bronze at their last competition in Worcester.

And, following this achievement, Leviathan Mcc Bikers Club decided for this year's Noel Daley Memorial Ride out, they would like to give the funds raised to Emily for her very own wheelchair.

The new chair will help Emily develop more as a player.

Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club's Rebecca Branthwaite, Emily's mum, said: "This is the second time the Bikers and Noel Daley's family have wanted to give a donation to the CWSC but, on a personal level, the difference the money is making is great.

"Some of the Bikers and Noel Daley's family came down to Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club to personally present Emily with her chair.

"Emily was delighted with her new chair, even swishing her first basket as soon as she got in her new RGK Elite Sports chair!"

Last year, Noel Daley's family raised the funds for Danny Ewin, who plays for CWSC Panthers in the National League, to get a new state-of-the-art wheelchair.

Rebecca added: "On Behalf of CWSC as Emily's parents, we would like to thank Noel Daley's family and the bikers for such a generous donation. It's is going to make a massive difference."

The Noel Daley Ride has become an annual fundraiser, which is organised in memory of popular Carlisle biker Noel Daley, who died nine years ago.

The ride prides itself in raising money for local groups.
