Whitehaven's impressive off-field performance was recognised when presented with the prestigious Clubmark Gold Award.
The Clubmark Scheme, run in line with Sport England, offers all clubs within the sport an opportunity to shine in areas such as duty of care and child protection, coaching and competition, sports equity and ethics, and club management.
The award was presented by RFL regional development officer Anthony Atherton to Haven chairman Dick Raaz and the club’s Clubmark co-ordinator Gary Hewer, ahead of last week’s Ike Southward Memorial game against Workington Town at the Recreation Ground.
Hewer said: “This is a great way to start the year and certainly puts us on the front foot following last year’s difficulties.”
Clubmark Gold is an enhanced level of accreditation to enable clubs to grow and enhance their provision, with support from the RFL.
Atherton added “Gary has been a pleasure to work with and is a real driving force within the club. He must take a huge pat on the back for completion of such a robust and valuable piece of work.”
