Promising young forward Reece Fox has earned rave reviews after celebrating his first game as a professional for Haven by scoring two tries for the reserve grade.
Fox, who has just penned a two-year deal with the Championship outfit, bagged his brace in the first half of their clash with Doncaster on Saturday.
And he earned a stamp of approval from manager Dave Farrell, who believes he has a bright future in the game. “Reece played his first game for us as a professional and got two tries,” said Farrell.
“And on the evidence of what he has done so far he looks like a very good player.
“He is the son of an international player and he is getting off to a good start in his own pro career.”
Fox, the son of former Haven legend Vince, started the game at second row and was influential in the side’s 44-18 victory at the Recreation Ground.
He has already played a few games on amateur terms for the reserve grade before putting pen to paper with the club.
Another of Haven’s new signings Andy Thornley, the former Wigan centre, also made his debut in the reserve grade and Farrell said that he seemed to be fitting in well.
Haven did not have the best of first halves on Saturday, only leading 14-12 at the break, thanks to Fox’s brace and a touchdown for Danny Barker, plus one Marc Bainbridge goal.
But they came to life in the second half and went on to secure the 44-18 win with further tries from Bainbridge, Tyrone Dalton, Daniel Smith, Stephen Fox and Carl Sice, plus five Bainbridge goals.
This weekend the reserve grade will tackle Sheffield.
