Craig Calvert signs new contract with Whitehaven

Top try-scorer Craig Calvert has signed a new two-year deal with Whitehaven – taking him through his testimonial season at the Recreation Ground.
The winger joined Haven from Wath Brow Hornets in 2004 and was an immediate hit in the pro ranks. But chief executive Barry Richardson reckons he is a much-improved player these days.
“His all-round game has grown over the years, and he had an outstanding season,” said Richardson. “Craig has been an excellent signing for the club and there’s still more to come.”
Calvert scored 26 tries in 24 appearances this term, including three hat-tricks and a four-timer against South Wales.
Calvert must apply to the RFL for a testimonial for 2014, though after completing a decade’s unbroken service, that should not be a problem.
Whitehaven’s assistant coach Lee Doran has also signed a new contract with the Recre outfit.
