DUFF LUCK

DEVASTATED playmaker John Duffy is out of Whitehaven’s play-off campaign after being told the knee problem that has sidelined him since last month needs surgery.
It had been hoped that Haven’s classy No 7 could possibly play some role in the play-offs.
But he said: “I went for a run on Tuesday night and there’s no chance. I’m absolutely gutted about it. Obviously this is the business end of the season, and that’s when everyone wants to play.
“I’ve been out for a few weeks now and I just want to get it sorted. It’s only a minor operation, but I need it.”
Duffy is rueing the fact he was unable to see a specialist earlier to assess the scale of the injury, suffered at Rochdale on August 19.
“If I’d had it done right away, I would probably be back playing now,” he added.
Haven must continue their play-off campaign at Halifax on Sunday without prop Steve Trindall, who this week was banned for two matches, which Duffy reckons will hit the team hard.
“He’s been colossal ever since he’s been at the club. We will miss him big-time,” added Duffy, who is under contract for next season at the Recre.
The scrum-half has been Haven’s key organiser again this season, but he does not believe he has always produced his best.
“Personally I could have done a lot better. I don’t think I’ve had the best season,” added Duffy, who will be at The Shay to watch the sudden death play-off, when Carl Rudd and Leroy Joe will fill Haven’s half-back roles.
“Ruddy will get them around the park, and you can always expect something from Leroy.”
Yesterday’s Pride of Five £100 winner was G Stewart, of Beck Green, Distington, with ticket number 1,208.
