NORTHERN League Division Two leaders Whitehaven Amateurs have put in seven days notice of approach on Workington’s Dan Gullen.
The County Ground side have made an outstanding start after promotion from the Wearside League last season and won 1-0 at Brandon on Wednesday to consolidate top spot.
Manager John George, a former Workington Reds centre-half, is manager of Whitehaven and says: “We have a good relationship with the Reds and certainly don’t want to fall-out with them. “We were given an indication that Dan might like to play for us so I’ve spoken with the Reds and our club has put in the seven days.
“I’m sure it’s to do with the fact that he’s on the bench most of the time and just wants to play at a decent level.
“We certainly didn’t stand in the way of Jonny Wright when he moved to the Reds last season. In fact it was my fellow manager Kenny Wallace who told Reds he thought he was ready to step up. I’d like to think we can have that sort of relationship with the Workington club.”
Reds football secretary Steve Durham confirmed that the seven days notice had been received on Thursday and would be completed in a week’s time.
Meanwhile Durham was also able to confirm that Reds game with Ashton Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup will be at Borough Park on Tuesday, September 23.
