CHESHAM United beat St Albans City 2-0 on Boxing Day to make it an uncomfortable first return to The Meadow for former boss John Kendall.

Kendall quit Chesham for the Saints earlier this season when he walked out on the remaining months of his contract and the parties are still involved in a bitter compensation wrangle.

And United beat them where it matters most on the pitch to show Kendall that maybe he was a little hasty in quitting The Meadow for a team who are now below them in the Ryman Premier League.

Mark Watson, who was signed by new boss Bob Dowie, set Chesham on their way to the points with a 13th minute opener before Dereck Brown, who was part of the old Kendall regime, doubled the home side's money on 28 minutes.

Chesham host Braintree in the Full Members Cup tomorrow and travel to Hampton on Tuesday.

Thame United are still looking good to join Chesham in the Premier Division next season.

They maintained their 100 per cent home record with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Leatherhead at Windmill Road on the Saturday before Christmas.

Wayne Cort opened the scoring in the 17th minute when a glancing header from Andy Williams' cross beat stranded keeper Stewart Vaughan.

Within a minute Thame were two up. Greg Williams' penetrating run was ended with a rash challenge by Jeremy Jones and Chris Fontaine converted the spot kick with ease.

Leatherhead looked for damage limitation in the second half, getting everyone behind the ball but they went further behind in the 60th minute when John Mitchell chipped the ball home over the onrushing Vaughan.

The fourth goal arrived in the 75th minute when Vaughan made a great save from a Dave Tregurtha header, only to see Tregurtha rifle the rebound past him from close range.

United missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of Division One when their Boxing Day derby at Oxford City fell victim to a frozen pitch. The match was called off too late for Thame though. They had already travelled to Oxford and were at the ground when the referee deemed the pitch too dangerous.

Thame entertain Aylesbury tomorrow in a match which was originally due to take place on New Year's Day but has now been brought forward.
