Wales manager Chris Coleman has challenged his Euro 2016-bound players to get as close to Gareth Bale's level as possible.

Bale finally linked up with the rest of the Wales squad this morning following Real Madrid's Champions League final triumph over city rivals Atletico.

Coleman says Bale's arrival is just the tonic his squad need as they seek a pre-tournament boost in Sunday's Stockholm friendly with Sweden.

Wales have not won since Bale's last appearance for his country in October, drawing one and losing two of their three friendlies in the wake of Euro 2016 qualification.

"When you have someone like that in your group we have to raise ourselves to his level, not the other way around," said Coleman after naming his 23-man squad for France.

"Whoever your best players are you have to get up to their level and that is what the best teams do.

"It is not just about his ability, players like Gareth are never afraid of a challenge.

"When you have somebody as good as Gareth in your squad, it challenges everybody to try to get as close as possible to his level. And that includes myself as manager.

"Okay, you have to be realistic about just where you can get to, but why not set the bar high?"

Coleman's big call was whether to include Joe Ledley after the Crystal Palace midfielder suffered a hairline fracture of his left leg on May 7.

Ledley joined the Wales squad at their five-day training camp in Portugal last week and has proved his fitness, to such an extent Coleman says that he could even figure in the opening game against Slovakia on June 11.

But full-backs Paul Dummett and Adam Matthews both missed out, with Coleman naming only seven defenders.

Emyr Huws and Wes Burns also failed to make the final 23 but the pair are set to travel to France as cover, with Joe Allen (knee) and Hal Robson-Kanu (Achilles) set to miss the Sweden game.

Allen and Robson-Kanu should be fit for the Slovakia opener but Coleman has until the eve of Wales' first game to change the make up of his squad on medical grounds.
