Another great team effort from Workington ensured they edged out Wigton in a tight Higson Cup encounter on Sunday.

Wigton won the toss and decided to put their opponents in to bat.

Workington began well with openers Kristian Moffat hitting 34 and Robbie Lambert 40. Kaushalya Gajasinghe then carried on with 52 and Andrew Ireland was unbeaten on 56 as they posted 232-6.

In reply, Wigton also got off to a good start, Nico Watt starring with 59 but in the end they fell just short of the run rate on 223-7 at the end of the game.

Keswick's total of 244-6 proved too much for Dalton who were all out for 62.

Keswick openers Andrew Bryson and Arran Davies got them off to a stedy start with 40 and 34 runs scored respectively.

Then Geeth Kumara put in a superb knock of 75, aided by an unbeaten 42 from James Benson to give Keswick a healthy score.

Joppy Hodgson then cleaned up in the wicket department, claiming 6-11 in his five over spell to decimate the Dalton attack.

Haverigg won the toss and elected to bat first against Carlisle, amassing a total of 217-9, led by Dalton Polius, unbeaten on 100.

But Carlisle stood firm in their reply, Dan Gomersall hitting 62 and Marc Brown unbeaten on 57 as they reached 220-8, with one over to spare.

Lindal had made 187 against Cleator in the final cup clash but the West Cumbrians could not quite reach their target, falling on 151.

The semi-finals, due to take place on July 3, now see Lindal host Keswick and Workington entertain Carlisle.
