It's the kind of headache all coaches don’t mind – who to pick and who to leave out.

Whitehaven coach James Coyle is no different and happy to have this kind of dilemma ahead of Sunday’s trip to Swinton.

Dave Allen has recovered from a dead-leg, which forced him to miss the in over Oldham and is back in the squad.

There’s also a return from Widnes for fellow forward Brooks who was stood down last week with concussion.

The three Widnes dual registration players Ed Chamberlain, and the Chapelhow twins, have also been made available for the Swinton game.

Coyle said: “The only definite non-starter is Richie Beaumont, who has had a reaction to a back problem after he played against London.

“Ben Davies is a doubt after picking-up an ankle injury against Oldham.

“With a few options in that area we are not going to rush him.

“We will see how he feels in training and it’s possible he might get a few more days to get over the injury.”

Brooks had been used by his parent club Widnes for the Challenge Cup game with Rochdale but suffered a knock on the head and was one of four players in the tie affected by concussion.

“There’s a clear pathway laid-out for players coming back after concussion with seven symptomless days. Sam still had a headache on the Monday so the seven days didn’t start until Tuesday,” said the coach.

Coyle is also aware that players left out of the squad these days have no other rugby to compensate.

“When I was a youngster making my way in the game I used to be down if I wasn’t being used in the first team.

“But come 2pm on a Saturday I had a smile on my face again because I was playing in a reserve grade match.

“That’s something that frustrates today’s players, especially the younger ones, and is something that needs to be looked at.
