After several weeks of glorious weather, Saturday dawned to the more usual sight of rain.

Delayed starts and reduced overs prevailed and, at Rockcliffe, not a ball was bowled.

In the Premier Division, in the remaining two games, Caldbeck and Braithwaite came out winners.

At Caldbeck, Temple Sowerby were put in to bat and were rolled over for 45 in 19.4 overs, Kevin Patterson (4/2) and Jack Proudlock (4/28) doing the damage.

Caldbeck made short work of their target, taking just 9.1 overs with Rob Benn making an unbeaten 24.

At Braithwaite, Appleby struggled to put a score together and relied on a last-wicket partnership between Josh Bellas (23) and Simon Palmer (16) which took them to 76. Dan Pyke took 4/14.

In reply, Braithwaite, at 21/5, were in trouble until Ian Plant (23 not out) and Jason Pyke (16) steadied the innings and they finally won by four wickets with four overs remaining. Jordan Palmer (3/19) was the best of the Appleby bowlers.

On Sunday, Kirkby hosted Threlkeld and won convincingly by 102 runs. Asked to bat, Kirkby scored an imposing 221/6. There were half-centuries for Charlie Bowman (58), Ross Davies (61) and Sam Bell (57). Callum Ward (3/34) the outstanding Threlkeld bowler.

Replying, Threlkeld were in a good position at 81/2 but then collapsed to 118 all out. Ross Davies (4/19) and Scott Allinson (4/40) were the main wicket-takers. Jamie Lihou (35) continued his good form. Best wishes to the Threlkeld boys who leave this week for a 13-day tour to India.

The Division One top-of-the-table clash between Staffield and Lanercost saw the visitors winning by 7 wickets.

Batting first, Staffield totalled 126. Although several got starts, no-one was able to kick on.

In reply, Lanercost lost early wickets but an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership between Matthew Brown (50 not out) and Callum Kennedy (38 not out) took them to a comfortable win.

Surprise of the day was Keswick 2nds’ win at Langholm, by 8 wickets.

Langholm’s 78 all out, with skipper, Jamie D’Leny taking 4/15, was easily overtaken as Keswick knocked off the runs in just 16 overs.

Nunwick and Carlisle 3rds drew with Carlisle 3rds taking seven points. Captain Christophe Vever (57 not out) led the way. In reply, Nunwick hung on for a point, closing on 119/9.

The Appleby Wetheral game was conceded by the home team who again were unable to raise a team.

The games in Division Two saw Edenhall and Carleton victorious.

Edenhall cruised past Penrith 4ths with Matthew Wilson (55 not out). Carleton posted 158 and owed a lot to Ben Greig (76) as extras (22) was next best.

Tom McDonald (3/12) best for Lanercost who were then 127 all out with Ben Allen’s 53 the top score. Jim Litherland (4/2) was the pick of the bowlers.

In Division Three, Kirkby Stephen thumped Patterdale by 9 wickets. Mike Pryke (72) top-scored in Patterdale’s 129/8. Kirkby Stephen eased to victory at 133/1 with Nick McWhirter (67 no) and Julian Cann (46).

In the cup, Carlisle 2nds comfortably beat Wigton 2nds by 8 wickets. Eddie Mitchell continued his rich vein of form with yet another half-century.
