With Kirkby Stephen stood down, Braithwaite regained top spot with a victory over Temple Sowerby on Sunday.

Put in to bat, Braithwaite (151) relied heavily on Jason Pyke (31), Kurt Greatorex (33) and Dan Pyke (54) for their score. George Burne (4/20) and Jonny Howard (4/48) were the best of the bowlers.

In reply, Temple Sowerby scored 88; Alister Craig (56) the only batsman in double figures.

The day before, the Temple Sowerby skipper had maintained his prolific form with a century (101) as Temple Sowerby defeated Appleby by seven wickets.

Appleby’s 181, Jordan Palmer (63) and Scott Cameron (5/27), was overhauled with eight balls to spare; Carl Hinkley (47) supporting his captain who has now passed 500 runs for the season.

Someone else having a good season with the bat is Scotby’s James Swann. He followed up last week’s century with a valiant 97 out of Scotby’s 124/9.

Jordan Oultram took 5/24. Oultram (39) and Cameron Westmorland (66 not out) nearly took Carlisle to the win themselves with an opening stand of 110.

Stainton put together an imposing 197/7 with Jonathan Greenwood (89) at the top of the order. Threlkeld (165/8) had some solid batting throughout but no one able to kick on and ended up with just a point for their efforts.

For the second week in succession, Caldbeck ended up frustratingly short of their target in another excellent match at Rockcliffe.

Put in, Rockcliffe (153/10); Jonathan Musgrave (47), Ashley Wills (37) with Sean Merone (4/33) best of the bowlers. Losing five early wickets did not help Caldbeck’s reply but Scott Wetheral (32), Phil Richardson (44) and Kevin Patterson (22) nearly got Caldbeck (150/9) home, falling just four short of victory.

There were just two games in Division One with Lanercost increasing their lead at the top with a comprehensive win at Keswick. Lanercost posted an imposing 278/7 with Matthew Brown (126) and Craig Foster (55) outstanding.

In reply, Keswick (164) batted solidly up top – Paul Ireland (37), Oscar Link (31) and Moses John (33) but only young Finn Turnbull (12 not out) had the skills to try and bat out.

Langholm (148) surprisingly lost at Wigton (150/9) by one wicket. Wigton were indebted to Tom Fleming (77) and Luke Williams (30 not out) for the win; Steven Johnstone (4/30) doing his best to thwart the home side.

Feature of Division Two was the number of low-scoring matches.

Carleton were all out for 68 with Phil Richardson (4/15), Matthew Strong (3/13), Cameron Wilson (3/17) doing the damage. Caldbeck 2nds (72/2) knocked off the required runs easily with Steven Blake unbeaten on 28.

Penrith 3rds only totalled 60 with Andrew Benson (4/29), Steven Hodgson (4/7). Gamblesby (61/1) finished the game in just 11 overs.

Stainton (49) fared even worse at Lanercost and were bowled out in just 25 overs. Alexander Clark (6/8) was outstanding with the ball.

In reply, Lanercost 2nds (50/4) lost early wickets but Tom Murray (28 not out) steered his side home, Thomas Graham (3/12) causing the early shocks.

Edenhall (160/6) proved too much for Wigton 3rds (42) with only Sean Millican (22) into double figures. The best bowlers were Jack Hale (4/10) and Martin Lightburn (3/8).

Division Three had wins for Kirkby Stephen over Patterdale, and Nunwick 2nds over Irthing Vale.

Carlisle 4ths (99/3) proved too strong for Keswick 3rds (98), winning by seven wickets.

Junior Cup Ties on Sunday resulted in wins for Edenhall, Kirkby Stephen 2nds and Wigton 3rds.
