Ben Stokes will look to continue his promising recent Indian Premier League form today after being named in England’s ICC Champions Trophy squad.

Cumbrian Stokes will again be in IPL action this afternoon (3.30pm start) when the Rising Pune Supergiant team he plays for go in search of a fourth straight win against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The England all-rounder played a key role in the Supergiant’s most recent triumph on Monday, helping them to a three-run victory over Mumbai Indians.

Stokes, from Cockermouth, chipped in with 17 in his side’s total of 160-6 from their 20 overs, before he was bowled by Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson. Opener Rahul Tripathi top scored for Stokes’ side with 45 from 31 balls, including five boundaries.

But it was in the field the Cumbrian made, what would prove to be, a decisive impact. He took the wickets of England team-mate Jos Buttler and Karn Sharma to end with impressive figures of 2-21 from his four overs.

And England man Stokes was also involved in the run-out of Mitchell McClenaghan and took a catch to dismiss Hardik Pandya as he helped to steer Rising Pune Supergiant to another win.

The 25-year-old will look to help his team continue their recent form when they play the Knight Riders.

Away from the action in India, Stokes has also been selected in England’s 15-man squad for a one-day series against South Africa and the Champions Trophy that follows this summer.

And the Cumbrian will be joined in the England squad by Durham team-mate Mark Wood, who returns after missing the winter tour of India.

England national selector James Whitaker said: "He's worked hard on his fitness. He's had a few issues in the last year or so but he made his comeback in the United Arab Emirates and has progressed nicely over the season for Durham.

"He has got a few runs under his belt. He had a bit of tightness in his groin on Monday but we feel he's going to be fine.

"We don't start for another month and he's an exceptional X-Factor bowler. We look forward to seeing him."
