Workington Comets team manager Tony Jackson believes the team have a good chance of landing their first piece of silverware this season when they take part in the Premier League Fours at Peterborough on Sunday.

Workington, who have won the title countless times in the past, will line up with a quartet of Kenny Ingalls, Richard Lawson, Rene Bach and Adam Roynon, with Kyle Howarth as reserve.

They have been placed in a group with Somerset, Leicester and Glasgow with the top two going through to the final where they will meet two of either Plymouth, Newcastle Berwick or Redcar.

Jackson said: “I think we should do well as Richard and Rene know the track well as they have both ridden for Peterborough, Adam is in the form of his life and Kenny will have picked up a load of experience from being with the American World Cup squad.

“The hardest bit will be getting out the group but in the final anything can happen and because it is 12 races it is a bit more work.

“I think we are marginally in the tougher group but I have been to many of these over the years and it is amazing how often there is a surprise and a favourite falls by the wayside.

“I think it is a very good competition and anything can happen.

“We don’t want to run any last places and pick up whatever points we can.”

Before the Fours on Sunday, Workington have two tough Premier League matches away to Somerset tomorrow and at home to Redcar on Saturday.

It will be the first chance to see Workington’s new signings Tero Aarnio, who replaced Rusty Harrison, and Ashley Morris, who came into the side in place of Gary Irving.

Jackson said: “I think they will fit in well. Tero has been around for a few seasons at Berwick and Scunthorpe and rode Workington as a guest a couple of times last season.”
