Workington Comets team manager Tony Jackson is backing guest rider Hugh Skidmore to shine against Somerset tonight.

The Comets will be missing both Kenny Ingalls, who is taking part in the World Cup, and Rusty Harrison, who quit the club.

Jackson had wanted to run ride replacement for Ingalls and bring in Josef Franc as a guest. But Franc was riding in Holland so Jackson went for Sheffield’s Skidmore in place of Ingalls and rider replacement operating for Harrison.

Jackson said: “At the end of the day you are looking for whose average fits best and because Franc was not available we looked for who could do the job. Hugh did well with Sheffield when he came here and with everybody apart from Richard Lawson able to take the rider replacement rides it should hopefully work well.”

Skidmore will again deputise for Ingalls for Sunday’s first leg of the Knock Out Cup quarter final against Leicester if the USA do not finish last in the first event of the World Cup, with rider replacement also operating for Harrison.

New signing, Tero Aarnio joined too late for him to take part this weekend and hopes to make his debut at Somerset on Friday.

Tonight’s match will also feature three demonstration races in an event called Blast from the Past, featuring ex-professional riders.
