Workington Comets Danish star Rene Bach believes a return to confidence has been the reason behind his recent good run of scores.

Bach started the season off at number one but it took him a few weeks to get into his stride following his recovery from a broken leg sustained last year.

However, a drop to number three as well as more time on the bike has led to him scoring double figures both home and away as well as producing some fantastic races from the back. He said: “I have picked up recently and I needed that so I need to keep it going.

“The confidence is there knowing I have more meetings coming up following all the rain offs.

“If I can keep on scoring double figures in all the matches I will be pleased with that.”

Workington face two more matches this weekend at home to Ipswich in the Premier League tonight before travelling to face Leicester in the second leg of the quarter final.

They will still be using rider replacement for the injured Kenny Ingalls and have Mason Campton guesting for Howarth tonight and Kyle Newman deputising on Sunday.

Bach sympathised with Ingalls and had an idea of what he was going through after spending months on the sidelines with a broken leg last year. Ingalls has learned that he has five broken vertebrae, a badly broken shoulder, and his arm broken in two places and was due to have surgery yesterday and Bach was hoping to visit him to see how he was doing.

Bach said: “It is not easy to come back from a crash like that because it is not just getting fit but you have to be all right to race again.

“It is down to the person whether they come back and it will take Kenny a bit of time but he knows how to handle it. I had the same problem last year and it took me time in my head to get ready again.”

A win against Ipswich would keep the pressure on Somerset and Newcastle who sit above the Comets in the Premier League table while the team already hold an 18 point advantage over Leicester going into the second leg of the Knock Out Cup.

If they hold on to that advantage they will go through to the semi final, facing Newcastle.
