Get your entries in fast or you could miss triathlon

ENTRIES are now being taken for the 2008 Cockermouth Triathlon.

There are two opportunities to take part in the popular event - June 15 and September 7 - but organisers are urging athletes to apply soon as there is a limit on how many can take part.

It includes a 500-metre swim, a 12-mile cycle ride and a three-and-a-half mile run.

"There's a limit of about 150 competitors," said organiser Karen Armstrong. "Last year we were booked up seven weeks beforehand.

"It's a very popular event with first timers and the elderly."

Qualified triathlon referee Ken Lowther is running an eight-week preparation course ahead of the event.

It begins in Cockermouth leisure centre's pool, the cycle section goes to Bass Lake and down the old A66 back to the leisure centre before competitors begin the run to a lay-by at Lambfoot before ending at the leisure centre.
