High hopes: Dame Kelly Holmes tries the climbing wall at Newton Rigg

Remember, it can be easy to fit sport and physical activities into your daily routine.

You could take your family on a long walk or bike ride, try a new sport or activity, get some friends together for a game of 5-a-side football or get back into a sport that you enjoyed when you were younger.

We want to get more people, more active, more often. In Cumbria, there are heaps of sports that you can try out. Why not go to your local swimming pool for a few refreshing laps or try something a bit more adventurous such as a climbing wall or horse riding?

Whatever your age, ability or level or fitness, there is an exercise class or sports club out there waiting for you to join.

You can walk, bike or jog to work, climb stairs instead of taking the lift, get a fitness DVD to do in your front room or take the family to your local playing field for a game of rounders.

If you would like to try out a new sport, contact your local leisure centre and see what’s on offer? You could also find out if there are any out of school activity clubs at your child’s school.

Sport is wonderful – it gives you the opportunity to make new friends, keep healthy, try out new activities and amaze yourself with what you can do. There are loads of different types of sports and physical activity, so try something different and change your life for the better.
