Workington Town assistant coach Jonty Gorley has warned Whitehaven could be boosted by the arrival of fresh faces ahead of tomorrow’s derby clash.

Haven have snapped up two forwards on loan, with Catalans reserve grade star Ugo Perez and Anthony Walker from Wakefield both named in James Coyle’s 19-man squad for the Summer Bash.

And Gorley admitted that Town would have to be wary of the new imports.

“They could get a boost from fresh faces when they need it and they have been struggling for injuries as we were earlier in the season,” he said.

“We brought Matt Gee in and he was great for us so it could have the same effect on Whitehaven.

“But this is a derby and anything can happen. We are going in with a bit of confidence after the way we have played over the last two to three weeks.

“It helps when you start to get your squad back together and playing some good rugby and hopefully we can get the points.”

Jarrad Stack and Graeme Mattinson will both sit out the trip to Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road.

Stack aggravated a shoulder injury against Batley last weekend and Mattinson also misses out due to family commitments.

But both Karl Olstrom and Jason Mossop have recovered from injury to hold their hands up. Alex Szostak and Stevie Scholey are also named in the provisional squad to tackle Haven.

“Jarrad has been troubled for a while with his shoulder and we are in a position now where we don’t have to play anyone who is not 100 per cent fit,” said Gorley.

Town will be taking a strong fan base to Bloomfield Road, with the club selling out of its allocation of tickets this week.
