Workington Comets have been drawn against last year’s runners-up Glasgow Tigers in the semi-final of the League Cup.

Neither side have ever won the competition but the Tigers lost to local rivals Edinburgh in last year’s final.

No tactical rides will be permitted in the two-legged tie against a side which boasts two former Comets captains in Richard Lawson and new signing Rene Bach.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: “Glasgow are everybody’s favourites for the league title so it’s probably the toughest team we could have had.

“But, from a spectator’s point, of view it’s probably the best draw we could have had because they’re the closest and they’ve got two former Comets in the line-up.

“Both teams historically go well at each other’s tracks so they should be two great matches and we’re very much looking forward to them.

“Anything can happen in this things because it’s a two-legged tie with no tactical rides so we’ll be going for it.”

Dates for the meetings have yet to be confirmed.

The second semi-final will feature Sheffield against either Somerset or Rye House, which will be decided in the Rebels’ final group fixture at Plymouth on Friday night.
