Midweek games in the Smurfit Kappa Premier Division saw Wigton Harriers travel to Cockermouth and secure the runners-up spot.

They recorded a fine 4-0 victory with a brace of goals coming from Richard O’Keefe, while there was one each for Dan Stockdale and Lee Coulthard.

Silloth stumbled at the final hurdle in their bid for second place, sharing eight goals on the road at champions Workington Athletic.

There was a brace each for Athletic’s Stuart Gray and Matthew Perry with Andrew Trestianu, Shaun Clark, Adam Carr and a Nico Watt penalty replying for Silloth.

It took all season but Whitehaven Miners signed off with their first victory of the season with a 3-0 win at home against Cockermouth. A brace for Paul McNally and one from Callum Gearing gave Miners the victory.

In Division One, Cleator Moor Celtic travelled to Windscale and came away with all three points with a 3-0 scoreline to keep the pressure on leaders Whitestar, with a brace from Rob Fowler and one from Owen Charlton.

Bransty Rangers entertained Whitehaven Miners Reserves and hit them for nine without reply. It needed a lot of diplomacy to see who was taking the match ball with young Liam O’Prey and veteran Ryan Cornish both notching hat-tricks, with Stewart O’Prey, Michael Garroway and Kyle Jenkins completing the scoring.

In the Hunday Manor Divisional Cup, Cleator Moor Celtic took an early lead, only for Borough to equalise before half time to make it 1-1.

It was a close game and could have gone either way.

But Borough seized the initiative and got the breakthrough to make it 2-1 and sealed the game when Celtic were trying to get back into the game, getting the all-important fourth goal to make the final result 3-1 to Borough.

The league is looking for new teams for the 2017-18 season. Further details are available from Geoff Turrell on 07891 833770.
