Whitehaven head coach James Coyle says that the club will make a decision on trialist Peter Dobson's future this week.
Dobson has been in training with the club during pre-season and made his debut appearance in Sunday's 26-4 win over Newcastle Thunder.
The former Workington Town prop swapped west Cumbria for Australia a few years ago and had a stint with Northern Devils before returning to the UK.
"Dobbo has had a good dig in the off-season and deserved an opportunity against Newcastle," Coyle told News & Star Sport.
"We will sit down with him this week, find out where he sees he can go from here and we'll make a decision on where we go with him."
Although pleased to have had Dobson on board during the off-season, Coyle insists that competition in the front row is fierce and every player will have to perform for a place in his side on match days.
"In terms of where he's at at the moment against the players we've got, it'll be tough for him to get a spot," Coyle continued.
"We've got Sam [Brooks], the twins [Jay and Ted Chapelhow], Steve Fox, Ben Davies, Glenn Riley and Richie Beaumont.
"They are seven really good players so it will be a tough ask for Dobbo."
