John Paul Brocklebank has said that nothing was going to stop him making his return from injury in Saturday's Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game.

The Haven half-back made his first appearance since May last year as his side beat local rivals Workington for the first time in seven games.

"I said to James [Coyle] during the game that I just wanted to get out there and didn't care where he put me," Brocklebank said. "I just wanted to test my shoulder out and see how I went.

"I feel great after the game, I expected it to be worse.

"It was a great feeling to get out on the pitch again, even if the weather was a bad as it was.

"I took a carry in with my first touch and wanted to see if there were any impact problems but I was absolutely fine."

Brocklebank made just seven appearances in his debut season after making the step up from amateur side Egremont Rangers.

His season was cut short after having surgery on a torn shoulder labrum.

"The end of the year came too quick for me to come back," he continued. "So I've been working on making my comeback and everyone is putting a lot of effort in in training.

"I think that showed on Saturday and it was great to get a win for the fans.

"It was great for us to finally get out there and play.

"We showed good attitude out there and you can do all the training you want during the season but it's not the same as playing."

Brocklebank is likely to make his second pre-season appearance in tomorrow's fixture away at Newcastle Thunder.

Sam Brooks and Thomas Coyle are also in line for their first run-outs of 2016, with Brooks joining up with the squad on dual-registration.

Haven boss James Coyle also confirmed that former Workington Town prop Peter Dobson is on trial with the club and will also feature in tomorrow's game, kick-off 5.45pm at Thunder's Kingston Park.
