West Auckland Town will be the first visitors to Frenchfield Park for the 2017/18 season.

Jim Nichols’ Penrith team will host West (3pm kick off) in an FA Cup extra preliminary round tie, with the winner earning £1,500 in prize money and a place in the next round.

In the build-up to the big kick-off for the Bonny Blues, they have added to their ranks this week.

Chris Wraighte counts Cumbrian clubs Workington Reds and Holker Old Boys among his former clubs, while he also had a stint in Australia.

Goalkeeper Stuart Dixon has also signed on.

Manager Nichols said of the winger: “Chris is a good addition. We relied on Martyn Coleman a lot last season for scoring goals. Hopefully, Chris and Elliot Bousfield can chip in this time around.”

West Auckland struggled last term, finishing 18th in Northern League, Division One. But boss Gary Forrest has been busy adding to his new-look squad and the Bonny Blues boss knows they will be dangerous up front.

“They have changed vastly. They have a new manager,” Nichols said.

“I went to watch them at Gretna in pre-season [West Auckland won 2-1] and the front four or five looked very, good. Going forward, they look a real threat. It will be a tough test.”

The two teams will meet in a league fixture a week today and Nichols added: “The bizarre thing is, if we draw in the FA Cup, the replay could mean we play each other three times in seven days.”

Penrith will come into the contest on the back of a 1-0 loss to Workington Reds in midweek.

Nichols said: “It was probably not the best game of football but it was competitive.”

Nichols may be without hitman Coleman, while Will Paul and Robbie Hebson are away.

Elsewhere, former Penrith manager Mat Henney has resigned at Gretna 2008.

A Gretna statement read: “The club would like to thank Mat for all his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
