Workington Town would do well to emulate fellow Championship outfit Swinton Lions, says coach Phil Veivers.

After a very poor start to the season, the Lions have string a run of victories together and are pulling away from the bottom.

And with Town sitting at the base of the division, Veivers knows now is the time for his players to start pulling the wins together.

“The next three games are crucial for us. If we can get three results from them then the whole table will show different proportions,” said Veivers.

“If we win then we may all be sat on top of each other.

“Swinton showed the way as they lost their first seven games and then put five wins together in a row.

“That is how you can turn your season around but we need to start winning first.”

First up for Town is Sheffield Eagles this afternoon at the Sheffield Hallam Universities Sports Park, ko 3pm.

Following on from that, Town will host Batley before they take on local rivals Whitehaven at the Summer Bash in Blackpool on Bank Holiday weekend.

Veivers is well aware of the threat that full-time Sheffield will pose on their home turf.

But he is confident, after the second half showing against Halifax, that Town can turn them over.

The last time the two sides met, at the Zebra Claims Stadium, in the Championship opener it was Sheffield who came out on top 42-12.

“They are a very good side and they have a strong pack but we have spoken about what we want to do in the second part of the season,” added Veivers.

“We can only concentrate on one game at a time and Sheffield are next up for us.

“This is the start of our season and we want to go down there with confidence.

“We will give them the respect that they are due but we want a result.”
