Tom Walker insists Workington Town's pack can match anyone on their day as they gear up for their Summer Bash derby with Haven.

Walker says Town's forwards have proved their worth over the past few weeks going toe-to-toe with some of the Championship's heavyweights including big-hitters Leigh.

And he says they can continue that form on Saturday at Bloomfield Road, when long-time rivals Whitehaven will be their opponents.

"Without a doubt, on our day, I think we can match anyone with the players we have in our pack," said Walker.

"I think we proved that when we played Leigh. I didn't play in that game but I did watch and I thought we matched them for most of the game so it proves we can take on anyone."

Walker is still on the road back to full fitness, after being out of action for several months.

The former Warrington Wolves youngster underwent shoulder surgery in the close season but now feels he is starting to get back to his best.

"It is still early days for me," added Walker. "I have only played five or six games after being out for six months so I am just taking it one game at a time.

"But I do feel that I am improving each week. But I think we can't look at individuals this weekend we need to pull together as a team.

"The results haven't been going our way but our performances have been improving and we are gaining momentum so we need to take that forward.

"This is definitely one of the biggest games of the season. The derbies come around at least three times for us but we need to concentrate not on it being a derby but on getting the two points."

And he admitted that the hundreds of fans, who are heading to Blackpool, could play a big part.

"This game is even bigger this time because of our league positions, the two points are so important," he admitted.

"One hundred per cent our fans can help us on the day. Last year when we went 18 points down, our fans did not stop shouting and encouraging us and it definitely helped us to come back and win.

"We know this game is all the fans are talking about, wanting us to beat Whitehaven and win bragging rights."
