Brett Phillips, Kris Coward and Perry Whiteley look set to bolster Workington Town’s ranks this weekend as they entertain Bradford Bulls.

Phillips and Whiteley missed Town’s loss at London Broncos last weekend through injury but boss Phil Veivers is hopeful they will be fit for Sunday.

Town are still missing Marc Shackley, Jarrad Stack, Karl Olstrom and were dealt a further blow when Chris Murphy was ruled out for the rest of the season.

“We picked up a few injuries after the Summer Bash, but hopefully Brett and Perry will be back this weekend,” confirmed Veivers.

“Chris was playing well and he was enjoying the game so it is a blow to lose him but he has come back from this before and hopefully he can again.

“We are waiting on a specialist’s report on Jarrad’s shoulder to see where we are with him and Karl Olstrom is still ill. And Marc Shackley will also miss this week with a knock to his knee.

“But I am hopeful that Kris Coward could be back from illness.”

Veivers was disappointed with the result at London but he says his side showed that they have the talent to compete.

He added: “We had Sam Forrester back in the side and young Tee Ritson. We had a thrown together team in some ways because of injury and lads were having to play out of position.

“But apart from 20 minutes in the first half I thought we matched, if not bettered, a top four team.

“That is the frustrated thing that we can do it for part of the game but can’t seem to do it for the full 80 minutes.”

Veivers admitted Bradford would be coming to the Zebra Claims Stadium with a point to prove after they were beaten by Dewsbury Rams last weekend.

And he warned that they would be very dangerous as they aim to make up lost ground on the leading pack.

“I watched their game against Dewsbury and they had a pretty awful day with the ball in hand but defensively they were still strong,” said Veivers.

“They will come here with renewed vigour trying to impress their new coach, which won’t make our job any easier.

“If a top team comes up with an unexpected loss against a lower team, which is what happened to them, then their players will strive to rectify the wrongs of the week before.”
