The sun finally shone on the Workington and District Sunday League.

After weeks of postponements through waterlogged pitches, the full programme – admittedly reduced to five games – went ahead as planned.

Top billing went to the two League Cup semi-finals and, as a result, the two leading sides in the Premier Division will contest the final. They also meet this Sunday in the Premier Division’s match of the day.

Bluebell were rampant against plucky First Division opponents Maryport Labour Club and ran out 8-1 winners.

Tom Powell (3), David Gaunt (2), Greg Quayle, Ryan Connelly and Chris George scored the Bluebell goals with David Miller grabbing the Labour Club’s consolation.

Northside joined them in the final but they had to work hard for their 3-1 success at Sun Inn. Goals by Kyle Galea, Jamie Bramley and Liam McCullough got them through with Richard Hird responding for the Sun.

The other three games were all in the Divisional Cup and in the tightest contest, Broughton won 3-2 at Borough Miners. Scott Howard, Connor Hammell and Kith Skillen netted for Broughton but Dale Hopper and David Thompson kept Miners in the hunt.

Workington Grapes beat Seaton Rangers 2-0, while Yankees were 4-2 winners over Thomas Henry who have been cleared by the Cumberland FA to resume playing.
