Scottish Premiership outfit Kilmarnock will be the first side to visit Galabank for a competitive fixture this season this weekend.

Killie, managed by former Motherwell, Wigan Athletic and Rangers player Lee McCulloch, will face Annan Athletic today (3pm kick-off) for a Betfred Cup group stages fixture.

Galabankies boss Peter Murphy admits he can't wait for the game.

"We will be looking forward to that," he said. "Kilmarnock will probably bring a few down with them."

Annan began their Betfred Cup campaign in Group E last Saturday with a 2-1 defeat at Clyde, while Kilmarnock were also beaten by Ayr United last Friday - in a match that Murphy watched.

But McCulloch's men bounced back from that defeat to beat 4-2 Clyde on Tuesday night.

On last Friday's defeat for Killie, Murphy admitted: "Kilmarnock might have got a wake-up call."

Meanwhile, despite last weekend's loss for his team, player-boss Murphy admitted he was pleased with the performance, especially of his backline.

He said: "We are quite happy with the defensive side. We just need more wingers and forward players.

"We are probably two or three weeks behind. But we are in a position where we can probably bring in three or four players, plus loan signings."

The game will be Annan's first competitive fixture at Galabank since their Scottish League One promotion play-off semi-final 2-2 draw against Forfar Athletic.

A crowd of 629 watched that contest and, although much has changed at Galabank since, Annan will be hoping for a similarly impressive crowd for this fixture.

"This game has a different emphasis on it," Murphy said. "But hopefully, the fans get to see how good the club is.

"There is a great atmosphere around the club. It's up to us to keep the fans coming. It's about results."

Midfielder Chris Burke this week signed for Kilmarnock and, after making his competitive debut for the club as a substitute against Clyde, will again be hoping to be involved.
