A big test awaits Annan Athletic tomorrow afternoon when they visit league leaders Stirling Albion.

Peter Murphy's side have improved in recent weeks and they have lost only once in their last six matches in all competitions after a difficult start to their Scottish League Two season.

But Athletic are likely to face their stiffest challenge of their campaign so far tomorrow (3pm kick-off) at the Forthbank Stadium when they take-on the early pace-setters.

Stirling have taken 15 points from six league fixtures this term, although their only league defeat this campaign came in their last home game, a 3-2 loss to Jim Chapman's Clyde.

Player-manager Murphy felt Annan started slowly in their 1-1 draw at home to Stenhousemuir, and feels they will be punished if they do so again.

He said: "Stirling have obviously started the season very well.

"We cannot afford to start slowly because they will punish us. But, in this league, anybody can beat anybody."

Prior to last Saturday's game, the Galabankies confirmed the signing of midfielder Scott Roberts after he featured as a trialist in the 1-0 victory at Elgin City.

Murphy said: "We have had Scott in training for a couple of weeks. Scott has a good pedigree, having played for Raith.

"But, for whatever reason, he has not progressed. Hopefully, we can help give him a platform to do that.

"I have found over the years there have been lots of players with lots of ability, but they have not been up for it through the cold, winter months. I was impressed with Scott against Elgin because he stuck with it."

Striker Aidan Smith leads the way as Athletic's top-scorer, having scored six goals in all competitions, which includes three in the league.

But Murphy was keen to point out the hard work of the whole team, not just that of the ex-Queen of the South man.

"People will recognise that Aidan Smith is scoring the goals, but Rabin Omar has been key in creating them," he said.

"Aidan is getting the plaudits because he is the one scoring the goals, but it's a team effort.

"I'm hoping he doesn't but, if Aidan does have another bad patch in front of goal, hopefully someone else will chip in."
