WORKINGTON Reds skipper Gari Rowntree is facing a race against time to be fit for tomorrow's clash with Marine.

The left-back was hurt following a tackle in Tuesday's match with Blyth which Reds won 2-0.

Rowntree began to feel pain 15 minutes into the game, but battled on as his side registered a sixth straight win in all competitions.

The 29-year-old spent time on the sidelines earlier in the season and returned by making a brief cameo during the 5-2 demolition of Ashton United last month.

He said: "I'm icing it, but I'm struggling to walk. I'm struggling for Saturday and I'm just going to see how it goes to be honest.

"I've been frustrated since Tuesday. I haven't been able to sleep thinking about it. But it was a kick and it was an old injury last time."

Reds manager Derek Townsley has an almost full squad to choose from tomorrow and Matty Tymon is the only player who will definitely miss the game.

The hosts beat Marine 2-1 in December and will play the Merseyside outfit again later this month in the league cup.

Reds have also gone more than 450 minutes without conceding a goal in both league and cup and have kept five clean sheets in the process.

Rowntree added: "Marine will try to play and I think they will to get the ball down. We will do what we can do.

"We've been on a good run and to keep it going against the team on top of the table gives us even more confidence.

"It just makes every game even bigger and we're just trying to keep this run going."

Kick off at Borough Park is at 3pm.
