People who were involved in the Carlisle City Sunday League from the 1960s onwards are being invited to a special quiz night tonight.

The event at Harraby Catholic Club is part of a new initiative which aims to reunite many of the men who played Sunday football around the city in previous decades.

'The Goal-den Generation' was launched earlier this year by Peter Scholes, who hopes as many people as possible will turn up tonight.

The quiz follows the launch of the project in March, which saw former players share stories, photos and cuttings from their Sunday football heyday.

Scholes said he has been encouraged by the way people in the Harraby, Upperby and Currock areas have got behind tonight's event.

He said: "People in shops and businesses have been genuinely keen to help, by displaying leaflets.

"In particular Liz and Billy from the Harraby Community Centre, Archie from the Arroyo Pub and Father Michael at Christ The King church were all very eager and helpful.

"And, just through popping in, the customers and manager in the Arroyo talked about possible future events through the project there.

"People have shared the view that it is important to put on different events in the community and hopefully it will reach some new people."

Money raised from the quiz and a raffle will go towards supporting youth football in the Harraby area.

The Goal-den Generation benefits from funding from the People's Health Trust and the Big Lottery Fund.
