Penrith made it two wins from two games at the start of 2016 as they beat Broughton Park 35-24.

The North One West side looked to have put the game to bed in the first half as they scored 28 unanswered points but they were pushed for most of the second half until a decisive try from Mike Fearon ensured they would be returning to the county with all five points.

Fearon scored his first try of the afternoon after just two minutes, converted by Matt Allinson and this was followed 10 minutes later by Jamie McNaughton's score.

Jon Fell scored after 20 minutes and Kris Bratton picked up the bonus point try with five minutes to go until half-time.

Thanks to four successful conversions from Allinson, Penrith were 28-0 ahead.

However, the home side scored on the stroke of half-time and followed this up with a try in the first play of the second half to reduce the deficit to just 14 points.

Two further tries in 20 minutes brought Broughton Park to within four points at 28-24 before Fearon scored eight minutes from time to extend his side's lead to 11.

Also on the road, Carlisle suffered their 10th defeat of the season as they were beaten 25-5 by promotion-chasers Kendal.

Gary Hewer's side remain above the relegation zone, however, as they have a three point lead over Broughton Park.
