Penrith AFC will look to continue their unbeaten start to life under manager Jim Nichols on Saturday as they travel to Washington – as the club continues to progress on and off the pitch.

The Bonny Blues have slowly risen up the league since Nichols’ appointment and, ahead of their trip to the Nissan Sports and Leisure Complex, are up to 14th place.

Nichols’ men remain unbeaten after Tuesday’s night 2-2 draw against Ryhope CW.

The never-say-die attitude of the squad has been shown several times of late and was once again on show at Ryhope Recreation Park.

Supporter numbers are also increasing at Frenchfield Park as fans see a united group of players giving their all for the club.

An unbeaten run of six games looked like it was coming to an end when Penrith fell 2-0 down at Sunderland Ryhope.

However, once again, the Bonny Blues bounced back to control the second half and indeed should have taken all three points after Kevin Connelly’s goal and Martyn Coleman’s equalising penalty.

The strike force of Coleman, Connelly and Andy Murray-Jones has hit a rich vein of form.

Six games unbeaten and a home draw in the next round of the FA Vase has given the club a big lift after a difficult start to the season and a change in manager.

Several players are hungry to be given their chance at establishing a starting place in the team.

Matty Moynan has been really patient since impressing in pre-season games and several players from the Carlisle area have joined the club, starting in the reserves in the hope of impressing manager Mark Bell who, in turn, will report any progress to Nichols.

Indeed one of these players, Tom Farish, made the bench in Tuesday night’s game.

The whole set-up at Frenchfield Park is beginning to show signs of a really bright future.

“On the field, there has been the formation of another Academy side run by Matt Rogers and Bob Norman,” said Penrith chairman Brian Williams.

“Off the field, talks have begun to improve the facilities.”

Penrith AFC are keen to be an important part of the community and are delighted to be attracting several local companies to help in this cause.

The relocation to Frenchfield Park from our historical home Southend Road has been a real challenge but the move is starting to pay dividends.
