Comets will be without their Danish contingent tonight, with Claus Vissing and Rasmus Jensen racing in the Danish Championship final, and Kenneth Hansen recovering from a minor shoulder injury sustained while riding for Peterborough on Monday.

The west Cumbrians were due to use a National League rider in place of Hansen, who was scheduled to race in Sweden for Valsarna.

But as a result of his injury they have been able to secure Scunthorpe’s Australian rider Ryan Douglas as a guest.

Michael Palm Toft will guest for Jensen, with rider replacement for Vissing.

Team manager Tony Jackson said: “Naturally, we hope Kenneth is soon fit enough to ride again as we certainly need him back in the team.

“But this unexpected turn of events has certainly made us much more competitive on Thursday and should add to the entertainment factor for both Workington and Sheffield fans.

“We would like to thank Ryan Douglas for readily agreeing to guest for us, and to his promoter Rob Godfrey, as we now have two of his riders in our side on Thursday evening.

“Finally, we would also like to thank Barrow-based rider Rob Shuttleworth for agreeing to help us out when we needed a National League rider, and also for being so understanding when I had to tell him that things had changed. But I am sure that Rob will get his chance again in the future.”

Owner Laura Morgan added: “Nevertheless, while not ideal, we can assure supporters that everyone will still be battling for every point at Owlerton.”
