WORKINGTON Town centre Jason Mossop insists his side will take enormous encouragement from Easter Monday’s brave defeat against Championship leaders Leigh Centurions as they look to climb the table.

Town could only muster 14 fit players for the clash and fought bravely in a 24-40 defeat which saw them concede three tries in the final 10 minutes.

Oliver Gordon was only player used from the bench but youngster Tee Ritson was among the stars.

Mossop said: “The effort and the commitment was outstanding. We went out there short on numbers with the injuries we’ve got.

“We could have come away with a result, but it was an outstanding effort from every single player.

“We have to take that spirit into every game and hopefully we will kick-start our season.”

Town’s next game takes place on Sunday where they take on bottom-of-table Swinton Lions.

They should have Declan Hulme back for the weekend and Tom Walker could also make a return from injury.

Mossop added: “It’s too early to call Sunday a four-pointer, but it is a must-win game. We’ve got to target these games and it’s going to be tough.”

Meanwhile, Whitehaven winger Elliot Miller is looking at an extended break after injuring himself in the Good Friday victory against Workington.

Miller said: “I dislocated my shoulder in a tackle and knew something was wrong immediately.

“I had an MRI scan yesterday and the muscle has been torn away from the bone.

“I’m looking at an operation as early as next week and will be hoping to get back on the pitch before the end of the season. It’s never a good time to be injured but I’ve been enjoying my rugby with Haven.”

Miller moved to Haven after being released by Town.
