EXPERIENCED hooker Graeme Mattinson said Workington Town will be out to right last weekend’s wrongs at Dewsbury on Sunday.

Mattinson said the squad had been tightening up their defence in training and that the clash against the Rams was a crucial one for them.

“We go out for every game wanting to win but Dewsbury are similar to ourselves, so we will certainly be looking to get the points this week,” he said.

“They are pretty strong across the park with no real weaknesses in their team so we have got to look at our game.

“We need to patch up what we did wrong on Sunday and get it right this week.”

Mattinson played his first competitive game on Sunday after undergoing surgery on his shoulder and was pleased with how it held up.

But he wasn’t so pleased with the defeat, at the hands of a full-time Sheffield Eagles side.

“It wasn’t the best of results but my shoulder felt alright and it was good to be back on the pitch,” he added.

“There were some positives to come out of it. We did some good stuff but we need to make teams work harder to score tries.

“We did a good bit of defensive work and wrestling in training on Tuesday night to help control the play the ball.

“We seemed to be able to make yards but once we got near the opposition’s line we couldn’t take our chances.”

Town were still missing seven key players last weekend and Mattinson says their return will boost the squad immensely.

“It will definitely make a difference when we have the full squad back, especially with the competition for places,” he admitted.

“Everyone will be going hard knowing that nobody’s spot is safe.”
