An interception try on six minutes by Ricky Holt gave Maryport a good start, with Mark Walker adding the conversion. But two minutes later Glasson drew level as Karl Armstrong crossed for a try, converted by Dean Petre.

The only other score of the half enabled Maryport to lead 12-6 at the break. John Dollochin scored a try on 16 minutes and again Walker converted.

The Maryport lead was extended early in the second half by Walker penalty and a Scott Akehurst try, which Walker converted.

Glasson were given hope when Jordan Kerr crossed on 48 minutes and Petre added the extras.

The decisive try came on 64 minutes through Maryport’s man of the match Andrew Pattinson, again converted by Walker.

Glasson fought hard in the closing stages and Kerr’s second try on 69 minutes, converted by Petre cut the deficit to 12 points. But they couldn’t manage anything after that so the last word went to Walker who landed a Maryport penalty three minutes from time.

Chris Tomlinson won the man of the match award for Glasson.

Ellenborough came out on top in the battle between the two clubs who came up from the Iggesund Cumberland ARL.

They beat Hensingham 38-22 with Kevin Hoban helping himself to a hat-trick of tries before adding a fourth five minutes from time.

Elbra had led 20-0 at half time with Hoban going in twice and being joined on the score sheet by Craig Dowling and Shane Ackerley.

Regular kicker Lee Birks, the Maryport hooker, had to go to hospital with a serious ankle injury after he had converted the second try.

Michael Hill took over the duties of marksman and after being successful once in the first half proceeded to add three more to his tally.

The Elbra tries in the second-half came from John Hill and Hoban’s brace to take him to four for the game.

Hensingham shaped better in the second period and scored four tries through Ryan Corlett, James Johnstone, Mark Thonton and Jordan Thompson. Josh Rogerson converted three.

The game in the south of the county, between Barrow Island and Seaton , was postponed because the west Cumbrians couldn’t raise a team.

Rather disappointingly one of the games in the Cumberland ARL was postponed for a similar reason – Hensingham A not having enough players to make the short trip to Kells A.

The final score of the half was a penalty by Bell right on the whistle to give Red Rose a four point advantage going in for the team talks.

Within four minutes of the restart Aspatria had edged in front with a try and conversion by Johnson.

Gareth Nicholson extended the lead with an unconverted try on 55 minutes but Broughton gamely fought back and after 68 minutes were level. James Bryden got over and Bell added the extras.

Aspatria needed two tries by Irwin in the last eight minutes, both converted by Johnson, to win the game.
