Goalkeeper Alex Mitchell insists he has no hard feelings despite being released by Workington Reds.

The 25-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by the club’s management as the beaten play-off finalists begin rebuilding for next season.

Fellow shot-stopper Jonny Jamieson has also been let go with Aaran Taylor returning to the club for his second spell.

Mitchell said: “I have no grievances. I’ve been here just a season but I thought it was a successful one apart from the last game.

“I was a bit surprised when they said they didn’t need me but that’s football. It’s difficult to take but it is what it is.

“But I’ve definitely got good memories to look back on, including beating Darlington at home, beating Blyth at home and in the play-offs.”

Jamieson and Mitchell spent last season jostling for the number one position between the sticks with both playing a part in the club’s impressive six-game clean sheet run.

Mitchell’s highlights of last term included a show-stopping performance against Stourbridge and produced a string of fine saves in a crucial 4-1 win over Matlock.

Mitchell revealed that he has had contract offers from other clubs, but is about to go on holiday.

He added: “I got on well with most of the lads and I’m sure wherever I go next there will be a great bunch of lads.

“I wish the club the best in the future and the lads success next year.”
