Jim Chapman has delivered a warning to his Annan Athletic players, ahead of their match at Cowdenbeath.

The Blue Brazil are bottom of the Scottish League Two table and are yet to pick up a league point in 2017, losing three matches so far this year and are facing the prospect of successive relegations.

Meanwhile, the Black and Golds have been improving in recent weeks, winning three of their last four games.

But Annan manager Chapman will not be taking today’s opponents (3pm kick-off) lightly for their clash at Central Park.

“I’m always happy to be underestimated, I would never ever make that mistake against anybody else. I’m certainly on my guard against complacency,” the former Dumbarton boss said.

“We are very respectful of everybody we play. We take nothing for granted.”

The Galabankies beat Edinburgh City last Saturday with striker Peter Weatherson, who re-joined the club last month after a spell in charge of Shettleston Juniors alongside former Annan team-mate Ryan McStay, scoring the only goal of the game.

Reflecting on last weekend’s win, Chapman said: “It was a great win. It was very cold and breezy.

“We didn’t do too well with the ball. But the week before [against Berwick Rangers in a 4-1 defeat], we played really well and came back with nothing. But we’re always capable of scoring goals.”

Chapman also praised the performance of loan signing Jordan Stewart, who made his debut after joining Annan on loan from St Mirren on a deal that will run until the end of the season, on January deadline-day.

The manager said: “Young Jordan Stewart did very well.”

Annan are fourth in the table and hold the final play-off place but Montrose have one game in hand, while sixth-placed Barry Ferguson’s Clyde have three matches in hand on the Galabankies.
