Boys’ Under-14

Abbeytown 2

Harraby Catholic 0

Despite recent heavy rain the football pitch in Wigton Park was in tip top condition for Abbeytown’s opening league match against visitors Harraby Catholic.

Overall Abbeytown were the better team and worthy of their two-nil win but the Harraby players put up a good fight and the team never lost it’s shape.

Abbeytown who scored a goal in each half attacked from the off and they would have scored in the first minute but for an outstanding save from Scott Smith in the Harraby goal.

Harvey Harrison crossed from the right and Flynn Charters guided the ball goal wards but somehow Smith managed to fling himself to his right to push the close range effort away from his goal.

Charters again threatened to win a corner off Steven Brown. Harrison’s perfect delivery, from the corner flag, enabled Carl Lightfoot to rise above the defence and head the ball narrowly over the top.

The Abbeytown passing was slick as they worked the ball from back to front attempting to stretch the overworked Harraby players and pull their defenders out of position.
