Former Workington Reds and Carlisle United midfielder Stuart Green has been unveiled as the new manager of Cleator Moor Celtic.

Green has plenty of footballing experience having played for Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Hull City, as well as the two Cumbrian sides.

And Celtic chairman Martin Mahone is delighted to welcome Green into the hot seat at McGrath Park.

“We are absolutely delighted Stuart has agreed to join us,” said Mahone.

“We were very impressed with his enthusiasm and commitment. When you add that to his obvious experience, I am sure that he can bring some happy times to Creator Moor Celtic in the future.

“I’m hoping he can build on the strong foundations at the club and continue the great work that Dene White carried out last season.”

Celtic’s previous manager Dene White finished on a high after seeing them win the Shipowners Cup last month.

White had indicated previously that it would be his last game in charge of the team.

Green will now take charge as he looks to prepare for next season in the Wearside League.

He admitted he was looking forward to the new challenge.

“The club and I share the same vision in moving forward and I have been hugely impressed by the energy and enthusiasm shown by all at the club,” said Green.

“The squad has real potential in terms of player profiling and I am excited to start working with them.”

This is not Green’s first foray into the world of management having previously had a short spell with Whitehaven AFC, where he led them to their first County Cup final and ninth place in the Northern League Division Two.

Green originally hails from Whitehaven and played for Marchon, the forerunner to Whitehaven Amateurs before launching his playing career with Newcastle United.
