Whitehaven coach James Coyle will be asking for more energy from his side when they tackle form side Oldham on Saturday night.

The Roughyeds have hit top form, culminating in Saturday’s shock Challenge Cup win against Hull KR, which had followed Championship victories over Sheffield and Batley.

Coyle said: “We talk about the little mini-league of four at the bottom end of the Championship but the way they have been playing Oldham are indicating they can pull away from that group.

“We want to do the same but I think our energy levels need to be raised and we have to play with plenty of enthusiasm at all times.

“It will certainly be a test against Oldham and I want us to be really focused for it. We’ve put in some good performances over the last two months and could have had at least two more wins on top of what we already achieved.

“I think London last Sunday was definitely included in that. If we had shown more energy in the second-half I feel sure we could have gone on and won the game.

“We posed more questions than Broncos did and it has to be seen as two points dropped.”

The Haven coach has just become a father for the third time following the birth of his first daughter, Aoife – an Irish name probably derived from the Gaelic aoibh, which means ‘beauty’ or ‘radiance’.

He missed last night’s training to be at the hospital with his partner and new daughter, leaving new No2 Gary Broadbent in charge of the session.

Haven will be able to use three of the Widnes dual registration players on Saturday night with Jay and Ted Chapelhow, as well as Ed Chamberlain available for selection again.

Jay Chapelhow and Chamberlain were involved for the Vikings in their Challenge Cup win over Rochdale.

But Sam Brooks will not be heading for the Recreation Ground as he’s still stood down after being taken off against the Hornets.
